Safety Consulting Business Adds Top Experts
A test pilot, a system design engineer and a fire/explosives specialist
are now affiliated with Safety Services International, a Seattle-based
aviation and maritime safety consulting firm.
The three new consultants are Capt. John Armstrong, Arny Forner,
P.E. and Dr. Merritt Birky, Ph.D. "The addition of these three
experts reflects SSI's commitment to offer our clients the top experts
from government and industry," said John Purvis, former head
of Boeing's accident investigation group and co-founder of Safety
Services International."
Capt. John Armstrong, a retired Boeing Experimental Test Pilot,
was the Chief Project Pilot and pilot-in-command of the first Boeing
757 flight. He also assisted in the investigation of over 20 airplane
accidents during his distinguished career at Boeing. "John's
credentials speak for themselves. His combination of experience
in airplane design, operation, fight test, and accident investigation
is truly unique," according to Purvis.
Arnold Forner is a former Boeing design engineer and accident investigator.
During his 36-year career at Boeing he gained a wide range of experience
in system design, engine installation design, experimental flight
test, and as Chief Investigator. "Arny is one of the most experienced
and qualified investigators the large jet airplane manufacturing
industry has produced," said Purvis. "His experience and
knowledge will be invaluable."
Dr. Merritt Birky, Ph. D., who recently retired from the NTSB as
a senior level Chief Technical Advisor, is an internationally known
expert in the field of aircraft fire/explosion investigation, analytical
chemistry, and fire safety. He served as a prestigious National
Resource Specialist during his many years as an investigator at
the NTSB. "Merritt has been involved in every significant airplane
accident investigation involving fire or explosions I can think
of during my 17 years of investigating accidents", said Purvis.
"If there was a fire or explosion involved, you knew the NTSB
would send Merritt to get to the bottom of it."
Safety Services International was formed in June 1999 to provide
all segments of the industry with expertise investigating large
and small airplane accidents and to provide assistance working with
legal communities and investigative authorities.
